Topic: Kids,Schools, and the Bigger Picture
Instructor: Dr. Andy
From the writer's perspective,he has so sensetive feeling and much concern to his responsibilities on his job environment such as students at school, their learning, psychological approach, trying to understanding kids then will be easy to find the way to teach,... about school's parents ( teachers, staffs, and Adminstrator),and further more...

From Dr. Andy's discriptions
He has exlained Biblical approaches and using verses as a religuse term to how much god is concern to his creatures , and how much we must be concern that the abilities we are posses. He gave an example of himself, that his is expert on some subejects, so that trying to transfer to the students in different ways that can be useful for students. He was discribed: we have a large erea of concern and circle of influence is always small within the large environment, teachers and administrator are needed to be involve in solution to providing facilities, that can be highly effective as he menssioned for further more to stoping the war.teacher must have confidence on his / her abilities and must be sure , is able to do.with influence to our students to let them to improve ... solving thier problems in positive ways,by using different communication tools, make sure kids arent adult, so we shouldn't expected they act as the same adult.
Teachers needed to recognize the criminal case from kids is happening the same but in within several times, must considerd equity judgement,ex. if three kids doing wrong in three different times, teachers' reaction should be the same fairness and keeping equall respond.
About subjects, he was concerned all subjets must be related together and contents must be useful, that kids can applying in their long- life.Ex.I as an Art teacher, every classes, I have to prepare topic, and explain about the topic ( historically/ geograghycally/ perspective/math / psychologically/and scientifically)... or students brain - storming , by questioning all above subjects over one sample, as my idea art can recover all subjects if illustrated to the students the correct way creatively and innovatively for all ages.
Applications:
1)We can't solve all problems,it is a kind of drops in the sea.As dr. Andy gave an ex.He always using recycle paper for his some job even for teaching, so he is small circle of concern , if others too,...
2)Subjects related, thats true. useless informations will have negative effect on students ,make tired and students will hait ...
3)Knowledge must be standard to their life , when students really will faceing in their life environment...

Thanks Dr. Andy

The main topic of discussion for this week is "The children and the big pictures". Dr. Andrew mentioned one very important term regarding how the writer expressed his idea in the article as " Depersonalization of the school". Most of the article focused on how the holistic perception of what the school is, for teachers affects the kids in school, as it will reflect in their behaviours.
Dr. Andy raised very interesting issues that can be applied into daily usage, as the followings :-
1. To Focus on what you can do:
In our discussion about other distractions that make our faiths in doing the best in our duties fade away, Dr. Andy mentioned Steven Covey's "Circle of influence, Circle of concern" theory. In regards to this theory, it made me rethink & reshape my attitude to focus more on the tasks lying in front of me and do the best I can within my scope. It is better than worrying about those uncontrollable factors outside. While it is important to be updated on things around us, be aware of how to adjust to the changes and comprehend at some points, it would be best to be aware that "Nothing is perfect"..why not do best on what we can, leading by example and see the circle of influence grow as time goes by. :)

2. Talking at kids & Talking with kids

For me, I think this is a very useful idea I got in the class room. Referring to the word I used to hear (From somewhere, someone) "Everybody grownup has a little part of a child, no matter how old he grows". This thinking also applies to the supervisory skill like "Managing up" and "Being a good listener". It also reminds us that no matter if it's children or adults we are teaching, trying to have a two-way communication is the best thing to make them learn.

3. "Clean Slate" - Make believe that the students can do and the students will believe as such.
However poor the students had been doing in school before he comes into your class, the duty of the teacher is to help him find his strength, develop it and make him believe he has his own way of growing. Dr. Andy raised an example of the military which is very interesting and substantial to believe that this theory applies to everyone. We can only build a person, if only we build a trust and respect for himself to him first....(From some writers I can't remember)

4. Basics of Education - The 3 R's
This acronym (if I use the right English word) reminds me that, as time goes by, these acropnym still works, but you may have to update them. Just like what Dr. Andy used as an example in the class about the 3R's that used to be : Reading, Arithmetics, Writing.
As in Littky's it is Relationship, Relevance, Rigor

In conclusion,as Dr. Andy suggested, the bold lines in Littky's reading are very thought-provoking and very good to note down each and every sentence. Some are very contemporary and unbelievably applicable to all situations, levels and circumstances...

Thank you Dr.Andy

Title: Kids, schools, and the Bigger pictures.

Dear Dr. Andy,

This topic is really interesting that talk about the kids, schools and the bigger pictures.
1. Kids are so fragile. They might destroy their future because of small problem. You cannot take away from what kids really needs. So that teacher has to be sensitive. Their decision to quit the school, what the kid sees as the main reason is something that seems really small reason. So that teacher should take their feeling and understanding and teacher should increase their responsibility to the kids.
2. School structure must be sensitive. We have to show that we are fair to the kids. Mind is really important and it is easy to affect to the kids. Then when we make a mistake we should ask apologize from them by go to near them. Moreover, we have to give the chance to the kids and highlight the keys points to them to make them easy to understand and remember. Other way, this chapter also mention about how people learn the best such as they learn the best when they care about what they are doing, when they have choice, when the work has meaning to them, when it matters, when they are using their hands and minds and when the work they are doing is real and relevant. So that they have mentioned about the world is integrated. Dr. Andy also mentioned that each subject teacher should link together from one subject to the other to make the kids understand and feel interested to study it to see their benefits. In addition, teachers should connect between subject and the real life so the kids will not forget it.
3. Big picture: This point the schools must help the kids gain knowledge, but they must also help them believe in themselves in others, and love learning. Because they have learned what that connect to the real life. Dr. Andy also raised three Rs that is the basic of education. They are Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic.

Best regard,

nimol
