Reflection for week six
Time: 12:30 Mid night
Topic: Effective Collaboration Communication and Change Through Personality Type
Lecturer: Dr.Andy
He has started to explain how different communication through different people, countries , and even males and females, and read some theories that have related to the topic, ex.If i can see my beliefs and assumptions,I can decide whether i still value them(Wheatley, 2oo2,P.36)
Communication= That what you say is what the listener hear.It is essential to leaders to know the skill of how to communicate with followers, first, thinking for clarity and listening for understanding, our feeling and thinking will influence on our reaction, then easy to understand. He has explained about how difference between males and females about thinking and feeling with examples.he had draw a line on the board feeling in one side and thinking in other side of the line to showing the percentage of these two objective.even though he gives us to draw and showing the percentage of classroom people and himself too. about miscommunication people are reflecting the action before they listening or thinking.also he wrote a sentence on the board explaining even different tune of voice can effect to different understanding.
second about: Introvert and Extrovert. How to judging and perceiving. So different people are having different personality style.ex.the leader send the message by assistant such as giving report to teacher that the grading system and how it would work.the teachers could start entering the grate when ever they want.In this case some teachers get upset.Because they didn't ge the point there are options for grading. So effective communication for a leader are:1-Creating healthy communication pattern for collaboration. 2- Different styles are needed for different group of school. 3- Provide staff developing for better communication(teacher with each other, and teacher with students). Inter overt people are mostly thinker then action. extrovert people less talker much listener, such as political people, they avoid do not talk.It was interesting and brief discussion .

Application:
1)Communication is really important
to any organization, need different creative style .
2) For every people in work place need to consider 20% for performance but 80% for survive.
3)Communication has significant important for leadership for implementation and collaboration.

Seems like this week the main idea is the discussion about "Effective Collaborative Communication change trough personality type".
Since I did not attend this class, the only part I can give reflection & application is what I know.
When speaking of communication skill, the other word that pops up in my head that seem to be the most frequent in the field of management in work setting is “Miscommunication”, which we generalize that, it is the biggest issue that causes misunderstanding within the organization.
Miscommunication can cause long-term and short-term conflicts, which, in traditional setting, we would disdain and would want to avoid. But with a more innovative vision, someone said, instead of trying so hard to run away from such problem, let it happen, so that it can be evidence for the future and so that we can untie the knots of misunderstanding. Learn the sterotypes and build a new one that everybody is aware of and forgive….
In cross cultural, multi-national organization, this problem seems to be the most important issues that must be addressed for awareness. In terms of training, communication skill is one of the two topics that is combined into all curriculum and courses. (The other is customer service.)
As a traditional organization, there are levels and hierarchies within organization. When teaching such courses as communication skills, we divide the course by level. In the basic supervisory skill, providing staff to become a supervisor, “Managing up” and “Cross-cultural communication” are mentioned to the students as very important.
With that being said, there are also parts, introducing students to techniques to handling different situations where they have to deal with different types of personalities of people of all levels, from bosses to their customers.
One main feature of such workshop is getting to know your type of personality. Actually, with such technical issue being addressed, the participants are encouraged to adopt the concept that, they need to learn to compromise with all types of personalities, as far as they can get the job done, which should be a trait of good leaders.
Regarding MBTI, the government spends a lot of money, sending people out to train what is called the “MBTI” course before they can teach such courses. MBTI stands for Myers-Brigg type indicator. Anyhow, there are still many other tools that are used to identify types of people theoretically.
Personally, I still have questions regarding these tools. I also still question the real effectiveness of using such psychological indicator tools as it puts people in boxes. I kind of think this type of skill change day by day. The predestined traits that are given to people can change by minute with their attitudes affected by what they are educated day by day. So, I am not too crazy about going into theory for this MBTI thing, but if I had a chance to become a trainer in this course, I would emphasize on simply taking care of people around you and keeping good relationship “as you go”, not by learning personality types. By indicating personality types, I kind of think it limits the people’s chances of becoming themselves sometimes. And creates biases inevitably.

Title: Effective Collaboration communication, and Change through Personality Type.

Dear Dr. Andy,

Communication is not only important for day life people but it is also really important for leaders. In that class, Dr. Andy has mentioned about the male and female related thinking and feeling that influences to the reaction. Moreover, there are many barriers in making communication and one important barrier is Language. We should say what they hear. Do not say something that other people think different.

In addition, we have discussed about the Introvert and Extravert. Dr. Andy explained about their characteristics. What are the problems that can happen to each term and their common complaining? And the solution to improve their communication such as: Agenda, Visual Summaries, List things on the board, Webbing, Brainstorming, Check ins, Key decision, What-if exercise, and Backward Planning. What is the most interesting in that class is that Dr. Andy provided us the example of each term to get us to see the clear picture of it.

Best regards,

Nimol
