Please post your reflections for week two here. Remember to always try and focus more on your circle of influence rather than your circle of concern. Thanks and Best Wishes, Andy
Today in Dr Andy's class we discusses how to make the most of available school resources.
I learned that pretty much all schools have problems (we could learn about problems faced by Flaming school - reading, we could learn about problems faced by schools where other students work).
But what was the most valuable is that we learned how to tackle those problem (starting with a plan) and also that not all the problems can be fixed by us. But it does not mean we should not be doing anything.
There was one think I particularly liked. Dr Andy drew 2 circles on the board - a small one (influence) inside a big one (concern). What we are concerned about is always more than what we can influence (do). Therefore, we should focus on what we can do/change/influence. We should not waste our energy on things we can't fix/change. We should also accept that our influence is limited but...I can grow! By doing something we can influence, the circle we can influence will be getting bigger and therefore we will be able to do more (influence more).
Applications: - as an administrator I would know I should start with a plan - where I am, how the resources are used and what my priorities are (as I can't solve all the problems in the same time): Should I buy new computers or maybe send my teacher to a course where they can develop themselves? What will better benefit my students? - as a teacher, I know that I should start with a plan to find the real cause of the problem (the root of the problem). When the student misbehaves I should find the real cause of it (maybe family problems?) and try to help him/her. - I should focus on things I can change. I should not waste my energy on things that concern me but I have no influence on. I can try and change the behavior of my students and I should focus on it. Another example: I think my school should have more modern computers but well I can't do anything about it (unless I buy them myself :)). I therefore try to use what is available and not waste my energy of trying to solve this problem even though I know I can't. Complaining too much will not help - I will use too much energy on it :) So focus on what you can influence and change a bit - it is better than changing nothing :)
To wrap it up: make sure that you identify the root of the problem; focus on what you can do and change, do not waste time and energy on complaining and trying to influence something you know you can't.
@Marcin, this is an excellent review and examination of the implications of our discourse in class, and also offers solid insights regarding our look at the planning process. I cannot really add to this, so I will just say, 'well done!'
Mali Gorjian This week Dr. Andy were expalning about the the school's resources, the most available location that will be more comfortable place for user. His professional style of teaching ,trying to uderstanding us tow tasks: 1-The class and school's Flaming, Porblems, and 2-how do teachers could influence and concern the school's and class environment,to enhancing students learning? by his perspective ( the teacher's concern is higher than influenc) to conduct his/ her job in school's circumestances. 3- Consedering our influenc is limited to such environment needed time to develop,so that it is necessary to analyzing and planning the responsibility that a teacher posses. We learned more by the discoussion with other students and their experiences, such one of student has explained about the conflict of communication bettwen Thai teachers and foriegn teachers...
Applications:
1-There are some how ways to handle such a problem, by plan and systematic problem solving.but may be some task that really complicated when the foriegn teacher faced with Thai teacher, as one of teacher shared in the class. 2- As an effective administrator,it is significant for teachers , staffs, and students achievement, is an improtant process element that has critical influence on school's envirnment ( Slovacek, 1996).So how is"Effective Leader" develop, by systematic effectiveness styles, There are several categories to classify Leadership, but the most important are: Trancformational,Transactional, and Interpersonal Leadership styles will reflecting to achieve the contingency factors. 3-For to be a professional teacher, needed patient, how much a teacher could have influence his / her charactor toward students and school, the most important how much concern to them? professtional, knoledgeable, and skillful teacher with confidenc and systematic style can influence and enhance students learning.
Thanks alot, and appreciated that to having you and my professormore over sharing us your skillful and nowledge in our class. I'll pray that the Peace and the grace of the LORD be upon you and your family. AMEN. Bless you
In that class, I can catch up some ideas about what problems possible happened in Educational Organization. And different organizations could have the same or varies problems according to listening to our classmates sharing about their organization problems. For strategic school, it is important fro finding the problems and rank them what are the priority . Then the organization has to try to propose the solution to solve those problems. Moreover, we have to focus on what we can do so that we can reduce our concern. We should not spend the time to think about what we cannot do because it will make us headache and it causes us waste the time.
The way to making the most out of available school resources, like other things that need to be managed, is for each administrator to get to know better of the process. After that, directions can be made on how to change or influence each element of the school to bring in more efficiency and leave out what has been the resistance to progress. Actually, the idea of making the most out of things, in other words, making it more efficient, is common in every circumstance. ONly difference school makes is, it is in a middle stage of being a profitable or non-profitable organization. In other words, if it is considered a "Charity" organization, making it efficient can't be touched only into material or tangible resources. The software of the school entity needs to be considered also. The values of the school need to be redefined and more than that, made clear to every individual in a way they can get it. Then again, identify who's the leader or if no leader as it is considered self-directed,instill the sense of "can-do" to everyone. Of there are leaders, they need to lead by example.
